In a planetary gear system, multiple gears revolve around a central axis while engaging with other gears to transmit motion and torque. The central gear serves as the sun gear, and its rotation is transferred to one or more planet gears that orbit around it. These planet gears interact with an outer ring gear, also known as the annulus, which provides additional torque output. As the planet gears mesh with both the sun and annulus gears, they transmit power through a complex system of interconnected gears.
