Planetary Gearbox

thingiverse

This is a sample planetary gearbox designed to test the capabilities of 3D printing gears. It includes a printable crank with spinning knob and a face plate that can be laser-cut. The gear teeth configuration consists of: Ring: 51 Planets: 15 Sun: 21 All components should snap or fit together securely by friction when necessary, but screw holes are also included for added stability. Version Differences: V1: Assembled without the acrylic faceplate, slightly larger, requires more print time. V2: Must have the acrylic faceplate, looks better, thinner, faster to print. Print Settings: Printer Brand: Printrbot Printer: Simple Silver Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: 0.3mm Infill: 20% Notes: The tolerances are optimized for my printer's specifications. If there is excessive friction or tight meshing of gears, then they are being printed slightly larger than intended. Conversely, if there is noticeable backlash (shaking of gears when rotating), the components are being printed slightly smaller than required.
