Vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qn0oaJO6jUU Spool holder and bearing system I designed for use on the Wombot Exilis XL printer, compatible with any 30x30 or 20x20 extrusion frame (files included for both sizes). Designed for quick assembly. Simply insert the axle into one of the inserts and slide the universal insert onto the spool, then slide the other insert in from the opposite side over the axle - this keeps everything centered and prevents sag. Then place the bearings over the hexes on the inserts and drop the entire assembly into the cups on the towers. The bearing towers don't require supports during printing, as I've incorporated a built-in support for the overhanging lip when printing in a vertical orientation. Remove these diagonal zig-zag supports with a screwdriver after printing - it's easy. The spool locking inserts fit most standard spools, and the axle ensures proper alignment and smooth rotation of the assembly. The planetary gear bearing is based on Emmett's Gear Bearing from Thingiverse, which I've modified for better performance. It provides silky-smooth rotation and continuous filament supply without straining the extruder. A light spray of silicone lubricant takes it to the next level of smoothness.
