A planetary gear, also known as an epicyclic gear train, is a type of gearing mechanism that consists of a central "sun" gear surrounded by multiple "planet" gears. These planet gears are then orbit around the sun gear and can be engaged with an outer "ring" gear to create complex speed reduction or increase ratios in various machinery applications.
