Plane sleeper shelf with tray table support
thingiverse
I'm sharing my first public domain concept, born from countless hours spent on MD80 flights. As I'd ride through the skies, I'd yank out magazines from their holders and bend them down to create a makeshift rest for my weary forehead. This design is raw and in need of refinement - I invite feedback on functionality, safety, and overall performance. In return, I simply ask that you acknowledge GridWorks 2018 as its creator. A prototype has been put through its paces, with promising results: it's seen a real MD80 flight and endured over two hours of rest. Even a printing glitch - courtesy of a Windows 10 update/reboot - failed to impede its performance. The support stand for the tray table remains untested, but might require additional features like foot strips or tie straps to ensure stability. This design's limitations are most pronounced on newer aircraft, where a dedicated tray stand is essential.
