Plane Blade and Chisel Sharpening Sled
thingiverse
This is a versatile sharpening sled designed for plane blades, chisels, and any other tools with flat faces and pointed ends. Print two identical copies of this part, one for each side, making sure that the hex-shaped insets face upwards. To assemble this unit requires specific hardware: (2) #8-32 x 3" screws (2) #8 nuts (2) 5/16-18 x 1" bolts (2) 5/16-18 lock nuts (2) Standard skateboard bearings (608) With the bearings already on hand, assembling this unit costs $2.78 in hardware from Home Depot and functions flawlessly. I am using it with wet/dry sandpaper taped to a 12x12 piece of granite tile but any flat surface will do. Photos show nuts positioned inside; assemble them on the outside for narrower blades like chisels. Tolerances are tight, so some slight drilling may be necessary on the screw head side for easier adjustments.
