Setting Up a Planarian Trap for Aquariums A planarian trap is an effective way to capture and remove unwanted planarians from your aquarium without harming them. Planarians are flatworms that can cause significant problems by devouring fish food, disturbing substrate, and even attacking other fish. They're also notoriously difficult to eliminate once they've taken hold. To create a planarian trap, you'll need a few simple materials: a small plastic container or jar with a wide mouth, some water, and a few drops of dish soap. Fill the container about halfway with water and add a couple of drops of dish soap. This will help break down the planarians' mucus coating, making it easier for them to be trapped. Next, place the container in the aquarium near where you suspect the planarians are hiding. Planarians tend to thrive in areas with plenty of food and shelter, so they may be found near plants or decorations. As night falls, the planarians will be drawn to the container's surface tension, which will cause them to crawl up and into it. Once you've trapped a sufficient number of planarians, remove the container from the aquarium and dispose of its contents in a sealed bag or container. Rinse the container thoroughly with fresh water and replace it in the aquarium. Repeat this process as needed until you're confident that all the planarians have been eliminated.
