This Plan is carefully preserved in the Stiftsbibliothek Sankt Gallen, Ms 1092. The entire Plan showcases an extensive range of buildings including churches, houses, stables, kitchens, workshops, brewery, infirmary, and even a special house for bloodletting purposes. Notably, this elaborate compound was never constructed in reality. Due to its significant historical value, the Plan bears its name as it remains securely kept at the medieval monastery library of the Abbey of St. Gall. This magnificent piece of artistry was painstakingly created within a scriptorium on Reichenau island during the third decade of the 9th century, dedicated to Abbot Gozbert (816â836) of Saint Gall. A digital replica, courtesy of ARGO ARCHITECTS, has successfully set the carolingian plan of Saint Gall into three-dimensional form. If further interest is expressed, a more intricate model with elaborate interior details of the cathedral can be arranged.
