The fossilized maxilla of a Samana hutia, identified as Plagiodontia velozi or P. ipnaeum, bears the catalog number UF 293849 within the Florida Museum's Vertebrate Paleontology Collection. This specimen was unearthed at Trouing Jeremie 5 in Haiti. Utilizing Nano-CT technology provided by GE's v|tome|x m 240 system, the fossil was carefully scanned and reconstructed by Randee Fladeboe into a detailed digital model. The project received funding from the National Science Foundation through the Environmental Archaeology Program of CSBR: Curating the Early Anthropocene Record of circum-Caribbean Animal Biodiversity in the Florida Museum of Natural History, grant award number 1929448.
