https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxPHcMXsZno The PLA Spring Motor Demonstrator 2 is a revamped design of my original Autodesk Fusion 360 model from five years ago. This updated version was designed to test whether a 3D printed PLA spring could power a gear train and move a vehicle, building on the success of its predecessor. As a result of this successful test, I was able to create several 3D printed PLA spring powered vehicles. A key feature of this updated model is its 1:125 gear ratio in three stages, which provides a significant increase in power compared to the original design. The side-by-side comparison photograph shows that this new version is slightly smaller than the original. I also used Ultimaker's "Tough PLA" for the pawl, spring and frames to enhance strength and durability. The PLA Spring Motor Demonstrator 2 is an accessible print and assembly process, making it a fun desktop conversation piece despite being designed as a proof of concept tool. However, I may have overlooked some files or details, so feel free to point out any mistakes you notice. This design was created using Autodesk Fusion 360, sliced with Cura 3.5.0, and printed in PLA and Tough PLA on an Ultimaker 2+ Extended and an Ultimaker 3 Extended.
