PLA Curling Troubleshooting Print
thingiverse
This design aims to combat PLA curling, a common issue with PLA prints that causes overhangs and semicircles to curve upward. Lower layers are then disrupted by higher layers, and if the plastic cools sufficiently, it can cause your extruder to dislodge prints from your bed entirely. Moreover, it creates an unpleasant rough texture on parts. If you're struggling to achieve a smooth bow on your Benchy, this part offers a quicker and more plastic-efficient solution for troubleshooting that problem. PLA curling is usually resolved by printing cooler and using plenty of active cooling. Acquire a fan to blow directly onto the nozzle tip if you don't have one yet. If you already possess a fan, ensure it's turned on and operating at full capacity. If this doesn't yield satisfactory results, create a fan duct to direct airflow straight at the nozzle tip. If you're still unhappy with your prints, consider installing additional fans, switching to centrifugal fans, or even changing plastic suppliers or types (PETG has been touted as an excellent option, although I've yet to try it myself).
