PLA Cooling Duct for the Hot end Mount for ABS by DtEW
thingiverse
I thoroughly admired the design of "MPSM Side-Port V6 Hot-End Mount for ABS" created by DtEW, published March 16, 2017. The cooling shroud is incredibly well-conceived, with airflow perfectly tailored for printing ABS on the MP Select Mini. However, I sometimes needed to print PLA instead of ABS. To achieve part cooling during PLA prints, I developed this replacement E3D bracket and Air Duct inspired by "MP Select Mini 40mm part cooling duct for E3D zero-offset mount" designed by wallyTHEgecko, published March 27, 2017. I greatly appreciated the way wallyTHEgecko designed his mount. The cooling duct can be easily flipped up when not in use, but it was oriented 90 degrees to the right, and the mount and nozzle opening were offset from center. Therefore, I redesigned both the mount and the duct using Fusion 360. The E3D Cooler should be fabricated from a plastic material capable of withstanding high temperatures. Although I printed mine in PLA due to my ongoing struggles with ABS printing, I am confident that the E3D cooling fan can maintain parts at a safe temperature when powered on continuously. After approximately 40 hours of printing, everything remains in its correct shape. Additionally, I now have the capability to control the Cooling Fan independently from the E3D Cooling fan using embedded G-Code commands.
