PLA ABS Fan Duct for e3d V6 MP Select Mini
prusaprinters
So I loved the PLA ABS fan shroud from xenomorphdelombre as I could easily switch ABS and PLA with the divider but there wasn't anything like it for my e3d v6 so I had to make one. I do have the official e3d v6 so I'm not sure about this working with clones, might, might not, I don't have one to test with. (Just a note, the block in the picture is not the e3d block as I broke the nozzle in mine, but since then I've got a replacement and installed it and it's fine.) Just a note on the screw holes: I'm using stainless steel m3 hex screws that are 20mm I believe, but you can use whatever you want. You just need to widen the holes of course with a drill or even a few twists of an hobby knife will do. (I'm using the stainless hex screws because I've replaced most all visible screws with them to match.) I'm also working on a dual 40mm fan version as well, look for that eventually. I have the MP Select Mini V1, not sure if it will work with the V2 but I don't see why not Print Settings Printer: monoprice mp select mini Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Resolution: .1 to .15 Infill: 50% Notes: I printed in clear PETG at 50% infill, you can do more or less depending on your preferences. You will need to print in ABS or PETG or something that can withstand the heat. Yes you have to print with supports for the mount section as it hangs out unless of course you've got overhangs mastered. The original design didn't need supports at all, but since I added the v6 mount it does now. I print with brim on most everything but that's my preference as it works for me. As far as resolution, I would print rather high and slowly. I have the MP Select Mini obviously but I've replaced my Z axis screw with a nema 17 motor and screw setup so I print at .5 steps resolution etc. Post-Printing Clean up and 40mm divider Clean up is fairly easy though you may have to clean out the 40mm divider slot a little bit to make the divider fit in. Don't overdue the cleaning as it could make the divider loose. I print my divider in a different color, I do red but something bright preferably so you can visually see if the divider is in place. It might not seem important but many times, when the divider was the same color, I've printed with the divider in and shouldn't have been. It just makes it easier to see it so you don't forget to remove the divider when printing with something like PLA where you'll need the fan. The divider can be printed in PLA as it's not subject to heat or stress, I did mine in ABS just because the red ABS was nearby. How I Designed This Lots of work This was a pita to design. I took parts of a few different designs to get it how I wanted. Credit in the sources section. It took numerous attempts to get it correct and when I thought I was done I had to go back and do more and then go back and do more and then add to it or remove something. Lots of hours and almost a whole roll of filament printing prototypes... There is a little bit of detail cleanup that can still be done to this design like I left the holes in the original 40mm fan duct, not a big issue, they just need filled in but I just left it as is. Maybe I'll go back and fix it someday, but it's not that important really and you can't see them. Category: 3D Printer Parts
