Pixel 2 XL dock for MK7 VW Golf GTI
thingiverse
This is a custom phone dock for my Google Pixel 2 XL, which fits snugly into the small storage compartment at the base of the center console in my MK7 VW Golf/GTI/R. It allows me to enjoy quick and easy wired Android Auto connectivity on the go. The design fits perfectly within the rubber lining, ensuring that it doesn't scratch any surfaces. I own a 2017 GTI Sport DSG for reference. I've included the Tinkercad link below so you can easily adapt this design to fit your specific setup. This dock was inspired by a similar project on Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2455994, but I redesigned it from scratch to perfectly match my phone and personal style. The D-Docks unit is another popular solution for this issue: https://www.d-docks.com/. However, I found the bulky design unappealing, especially considering the universal fit requirement. My dock allows you to maintain most of the storage space in the center console even when your phone is not present, and it also utilizes the available space along the side. What's more, this dock is a cost-effective solution compared to the D-Docks unit. This design relies on a specific right-angle USB-C cable: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07741C7ZB. This cable is the perfect length and minimizes wasted space in the center console. I'm using the Spigen Tough Armor case for my Google Pixel 2 XL, which can be purchased on Amazon at this link: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07472RPZ5.
