Pivoting ball joint stand for a phone

Simple two-part stand holds a phone in landscape view, ideal for "steady" time-lapse and slow-mo shots with your mobile device. To get this done, I needed a sturdy stand that could keep my phone stable for extended periods. I used OpenSCAD to design both models at the same time, which proved to be an efficient approach. However, it took two rounds of revisions before I was satisfied with the result and confident enough to print it out on my Thing-O-Matic 3D printer. It's highly recommended that you enable rafting during printing. All you need to do is tweak two clearly marked variables in the OpenSCAD model to fit your phone perfectly. These are: size: This determines the diameter of the ball in millimeters. widthOfSlot: Measure how thick your phone is in millimeters and add 1mm for a snug, perfect fit. After printing, you may need to trim one side of the inner ball joint to complete the assembly.
