A weathered stone anvil lies exposed at the Warren Wilson site in Buncombe County, North Carolina. This ancient artifact dates back to the Woodland period, specifically to the Swannanoa phase, which spanned from 1000 to 300 BC. Crafted from a dense gneiss material, the anvil measures 99.4 mm in length, 73.6 mm in width, and 50.7 mm in thickness. The artifact is now part of the North Carolina Archaeological Collection, Research Laboratories of Archaeology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, cataloged as number 2225a1517.
