Piston box to safely expose mosquitoes to blood meal
thingiverse
This 3D printed piston box is designed to safely exposed mosquitoes to (infectious) blood meal in the lab. Before use, place a mosquito net on the top that can be tightened with the clamping ring. Anaesthetised (4°C) females mosquitoes can then be added into the side hatch when the piston is at the lowest position. Screw the piston upward to bring all mosquitoes in close contact to the top net. The piston thread prevents mosquito to escape from the box in the process. A disposable cup (one print per experiment) can be use to prevent any contacts between mosquitoes and the system during the blood meal. Can be printed without support to save a lot of post-processing time. Depending on your printer, the side hatch screw might not fit perfectly. I provide an alternative one that can be clipped rather than screwed.
