Pirate Toy Box
thingiverse
I had an old crate just chillin' around the house, and my son's floor was littered with toys while he binge-watched Sponge Bob on Netflix. Being the type of guy I am, I saw a golden opportunity to create something awesome. So I busted out the sander, gave the box a quick once-over, then fired up the blow torch to bring out the grain and add some character. Next, I stained and sealed it with a 2-in-1 stain and polyurethane combo, grabbed a continuous hinge and two cabinet openers from Amazon, and got my hands dirty with some scrap wood painted black. With Tinkercad fired up, I downloaded this padlock by "Meximelt" and this Jolly Roger flag by BY_CRC, then mashed them together like they were meant to be. After that, I threw together some squares and circles for corner pieces and the latch assembly, slapped on some gold paint, let it dry, and gave it a smooth finish with black spray paint and an alcohol-dampened rag. Finally, I attached everything with furniture/leather tacks, making sure to glue on the lock's loop. I'm no carpenter by any stretch of the imagination, and this was my first attempt at combining 3D printing with woodwork, so if a hack like me can pull it off, you definitely can too! If you need help with your project, just give me a shout.
