Project: Swashbuckling Pencil Holder Objectives: Students will learn how to create simple yet fun ways to organize their desks and utilize different techniques to make entertaining and easy objects. Audiences: You will need to be at least in sixth grade to have completed this project, or if you have more experience than that, you should be able to do this project in lower level grades. Preparation: To be able to complete this project, you should have at least gone through some basic skills such as how to line up objects and turn them into holes. Steps: The first step in making this project is to make the base and the wave. To make this step, You first have to get a blue rectangular prism and extend it to the size you prefer. Next you need a half cylinder (same color) and lengthen it to make it half the length of the rectangular prism. Then you put the half cylinder on top of the rectangular prism and align them so there is no overhang. The next step is to build the ship. To build the ship, you first have to create the base . To do this you just get a rectangular prism. Next you need to make the keel. To do this you use an upside down triangular prism, and make the base of the prism the same size as the base of the boat. Next you make the rails by using long and skinny rectangular prisms. The mast is made of cylinders that are tall and skinny and the sail is just flat rectangular prisms. To make the pencil holes, you first have to make a cylinder the size of the pencil hole you want, then you make it a hole and place it wherever you want on the boat. Then, once you build the shapes the colors you want them, you can group the objects and select multi color to complete the project. Results: At the end of the project, students should have designed a fully functional swashbuckling ship pencil holder. Some ways to grade this could be based on object alignment and the correct look and use of the project.
