The species is a bird from the Estrildidae family, belonging to the Amandava genus. This bird is a type of grassland bird that eats rice, seed pods, and has habitats in bushes, meadows, farmland, paddies, and bamboo thickets. They are spread out up to an elevation of 1,500 meters above sea level. The Bengal Pipit has a small body size (10 cm). The male bird: Has a reddish-brown color. Its wings and tail are dark brown. There are spots on its sides. Its wings and tail feathers have small white dots. The female bird: The lower part of the body is yellowish gray. The mantle is grayish brown. The rump is red. The wings and tail are dark brown. There are a few white spots on the wings. The eyes are brown, the beak is red, and the legs are reddish flesh. It flies quickly in groups that show no sign of fatigue. This bird builds a characteristic spherical nest from grasses in low vegetation with reeds or grasses. The eggs are white, numbering 5-6 pieces. They breed in May, June, and December.
