For nearly three decades, the training market has been dominated by the Cessna 150/152 and Piper PA-28 Cherokee (later known as Warrior). Introduced early in 1961, the low-wing PA-28 was a significant shift for Piper. The basic PA-28 design has been used as the basis for numerous two-, four-, and six-place Piper single-engine aircraft and even some twins. The PA-28-161 Warrior II, certified in November 1976, is a four-seater, fixed-landing-gear landplane with a tapered wing compared to its predecessor, the PA-28-160.
