For three decades, the Cessna 150/152 and Piper PA-28 Cherokee, later known as Warrior, have dominated training fleets since 1961. The low-wing PA-28 marked a significant change for Piper. Its design served as a basis for numerous two-, four-, and six-place singles, even twins. In November 1976, the PA-28-161 Warrior II received certification as a four-place fixed landing gear landplane with a tapered wing compared to its predecessor, PA-28-160.
