Description The Piper Seneca is a light aircraft used for personal transportation, often by individuals seeking a reliable and versatile flying machine. It is a twin-engine version of the PA-32 Cherokee Lance series. Texture High-resolution textures are available for all major surface areas, with color maps provided and Photoshop templates available for download. History Since its introduction in 1971 as the PA-34-200 Seneca I, the aircraft has undergone significant transformations. In response to complaints about handling qualities, Piper introduced the PA-34-200T Seneca II in 1975, incorporating changes to control surfaces, including enlarged and balanced ailerons, a rudder anti-servo tab, and a stabilator bobweight. The "T" designation indicates an upgrade to turbocharged, six-cylinder TSIO-360 Continental engines for improved performance. The Seneca II was effective in addressing handling issues, but the aircraft still felt somewhat heavy in flight. However, it was comfortable, roomy, and responsive, albeit slower than some other twins, such as the 310 and Beechcraft Baron. It required special care on landing due to its high-lift wings and powerful stabilator, as well as a short undercarriage. Another major competitor of the Seneca II was the 337 centerline thrust aircraft. In 1981, the PA-34-220T Seneca III was introduced, featuring an engine upgrade with different Continental engines rated at 220 horsepower (165 kW), although only for five minutes before dropping to 200 hp (150 kW). The horsepower increase and new engines' rev limit of 2800rpm (up from 2575rpm) resulted in improved climb and cruise performance. The Seneca III also incorporated a one-piece windshield, larger electrically actuated flaps, and a less flimsy instrument panel made of metal. After the significant upgrades of the Seneca II and III, model revisions were less drastic. In 1994, the "New" Piper company introduced the Seneca IV, which was similar to the Seneca III but offered a streamlined engine cowl for increased cruise performance. Finally, in 1998, the Seneca V was released, featuring redesigned cowls for increased performance, relocated cockpit switches, and a slightly different engine variant. However, this aircraft is very similar to the III and IV models.
