The aircraft is a Piper PA-28 Cherokee. The design has undergone several modifications over the years. The first variant to feature an aluminum body was designated the PA-28-140 and it made its initial flight on July 12, 1960. An additional variant called the PA-28R-180 Dakota soon followed, incorporating improvements in speed, efficiency and visibility of passengers while also boasting enhanced cabin dimensions with more interior room and added rear doors allowing greater accessibility for passengers as well as crew. The aircraft was also equipped with improved fuel capacity by approximately doubling existing tanks.
