Pipe Wrench

A pipe wrench, known as a Stillson wrench in the UK, is an essential tool for turning soft iron pipes with rounded surfaces. The adjustable jaws lock into place within the frame, tightening further when pressure is applied on the handle. Angled teeth grip onto soft pipes during use but aren't suitable for hardened steel hex nuts or fittings as they could damage them. Although not ideal, a pipe wrench can be used to break free bolts or nuts from rounded hex nuts if necessary. Pipe wrenches are available in various sizes ranging from 10-48 inches and are typically made of cast steel, with aluminum sometimes used for the body while keeping the teeth and jaw as steel. Repairing broken wrenches is cost-effective, as replacement kits containing adjustment rings, springs, and jaw parts can be purchased.
