I design engineering plant systems as part of my day job, focusing mainly on copper pipework installations. This tool was created to help me quickly identify the size of a given tube of copper by inserting it into the gauge. The imperial diameters listed on the gauge are those used by my company for copper tubes up to 2 1/8 inches in diameter; I've also included the corresponding metric measurements. The principle behind this tool can be applied to various pipe sizes, making it a versatile measuring device. When inserting a tube into the gauge, the triangular peep holes on each step lie flush with the bottom face of that particular step. Each peep hole corresponds to a specific pipe size, and as you insert the tube, it will drop down into the smallest step that fits it snugly. Through the peep hole or the light passing through the holes underneath, you'll be able to see the copper tube clearly, indicating its precise size. Each step's diameter is calculated by adding 0.5mm to the width of the pipe for a bit of clearance.
