Pipe-Based Dice Tower
thingiverse
This is a modular stackable dice tower based around 3" ABS sewer pipe, or any tubing with similar enough dimensions (3" inner diameter, 0.25" wall thickness); additionally, you will need a 1/4-20 hex bolt or threaded rod and appropriate matching hex nuts. The tower's height can be whatever you want it to be; the central pieces are 0.75" tall and identical, so you can just print more or less to fit any pipe length that is a multiple of 3/4". For my test build, I used a 6" pipe segment and 8 ramp pieces to create a roughly 8" tower. For the center bolt, I cut an 8" piece of threaded rod and used rocksett to semi-permanently attach a nylon stop nut on the bottom end of it, then used another stop nut (in the "king nut" piece) to secure the whole stack together from the top. (1/4" hex bolts over 6" were not readily available locally) I printed all pieces at 0.28mm layer height for strength and to print faster. The base, roof, and ramps were printed at 25% infill, and the king nut was printed at 70% for extra strength. The king nut is just for looks; you can skip it and use a wing nut if you don't care. The ramp pieces have little alignment bumps and notches to keep them oriented 90 degrees to one another; the base and roof also have these, so it's not terribly difficult to keep them aligned once you do it once; as long as there's firm screw pressure on them, they won't shift. I found assembly easiest if I ran the bolt through the base and all the ramp sections first, put a little pressure on the stack with a nut, got the ramps aligned with the base and each other, then carefully removing the nut and sliding the pipe over the ramps, then aligning the cap and adjusting the king nut down tightly to keep everything together. Total print time: Base - 5:30 Cap - 4:50 Ramps - 0:45 x 8 (6:00) Total: ~16:40 My estimated costs: Filament: $3.60 Pipe: $1.64 (1/4 of a $6.56 piece) Misc. hardware: $1.20 Total: $6.44 I hope this is useful to someone else! I'm certainly happy with it.
