The Human Genome Project was initiated in 1990 to map out every single gene and base pair that makes up human DNA. This massive undertaking involved scientists from around the world working together to sequence the entire human genome, which consists of more than three billion base pairs of DNA. The project was a groundbreaking achievement that took over 13 years to complete, with a final draft of the human genome sequence being released in 2003.
