Description This is a detailed, lightweight model of Pioneer 11, textured with bump mapped images. All objects are named and parented for easy manipulation. History Pioneer 11, also known as Pioneer G, was a groundbreaking spacecraft that followed in the footsteps of its sister probe Pioneer 10 to explore Jupiter's outer solar system and Saturn's main rings. By using Jupiter's massive gravitational pull, Pioneer 11 altered its trajectory toward Saturn with incredible precision. This daring maneuver allowed the spacecraft to make a successful Saturn flyby before escaping the solar system forever. Its objectives were multifaceted: studying interplanetary magnetic fields, solar wind properties, cosmic rays, and neutral hydrogen abundance; measuring dust particle distribution, size, mass, flux, and velocity; observing Jovian aurorae and radio waves; analyzing planetary atmospheres; and exploring the surfaces of Jupiter, Saturn, and their satellites. This remarkable spacecraft was designed at NASA Ames Research Center as part of the Pioneer series (6-12), which also includes Pioneer Venus.
