Name: Chess Pieces. Made in a bunker where Jewish residents of Kolomyya hid during World War II. A complete set of hand-carved chess pieces made by Pola Najder (1917-97) during World War II while she and her husband hid with eight others in a bunker in Kolomyya. Due to lack of paint, all the pieces are the same color. To distinguish black from white, half of them have been marked on the underside with an "X".
