Name: Chess Pieces. Crafted in a bunker where Ukrainian Jews hid during World War II. A complete set of hand-carved chess pieces made by Polish artist Pola Najder (1917-97) during World War II while she and her husband hid with eight others in a secret underground bunker in Kolomyia, Ukraine. Since paint was scarce, all the pieces are the same color. To distinguish black from white, half of them have an "X" mark on their undersides.
