This is my entry for the 2019 Fusion 360 Challenge, which falls under the "Desktop Fusion" category. https://youtu.be/oOm3y8fIZis My desktop notification system utilizes a Raspberry Pi Zero-W, Pi Camera, WaveShare 2.9" three-color E-Ink Display and a Spectra Symbol 50mm "soft pot" linear membrane potentiometer. The software is purely theoretical but should be feasible: It would use the Pi Camera for facial recognition, enabling personalized updates without manual log in and refresh based on attention. When the user looks at the device, they are first identified and then the display is refreshed to provide configurable email and phone notifications. The linear soft-pot allows for use as a soft-keyboard of sorts, perhaps allowing users to view portions of emails or entire text messages on the device's e-ink display, possibly even select and provide canned responses. The three-color display enables both more graphical complexity in the UI and the ability to tag important messages in a highlight color. When the user leaves the desk, the Pi Camera is used to determine their absence and the display is updated to show generic information such as local weather, thus avoiding other users seeing each other's notifications. The low power requirements and small size of the device make it unobtrusive and physically compact. By utilizing commodity parts, it is easily built by the DIYer and its housing, though somewhat complex to print with a home 3D-printer, is strong and compact. A Bluetooth module may be added easily to act as an authenticator and/or increase connectivity with the user's phone beyond that offered by cloud/IP based solutions.
