Ancient leafy branches bearing seed cones are preserved in a fossilized Metasequoia occidentalis from Canada's Eocene era. Today, the only living species of Metasequoia, M. glyptostroboides, thrives in China's native forests. This specimen originates from Cornell University's Paleobotanical Collection (CUPC) in Ithaca, New York. Measuring 11.5 cm long, it provides valuable insight into the past.
