Fossilized leafy branchlets of the Dawn Redwood Metasequoia occidentalis from Alberta's Paleocene era are preserved as carbonized remains. The only living species of Metasequoia, M. glyptostroboides, thrives in China's native forests. This specimen originates from Cornell University's esteemed Paleobotanical Collection (CUPC) in Ithaca, New York, cataloged as #2081. Measuring approximately 16 cm in length, the specimen was meticulously modeled by Emily Hauf.
