When your seven-year-old son asks "Daddy, can you print me pinewood derby wheels?" there is only one correct answer, and it isn't "no".

This wheel was designed using drawings of the actual wheels and should be dimensionally accurate. Obviously under the most common derby rules you wouldn't be allowed to use these and it's unlikely they'd be smooth enough that you'd want to anyway, but hey it's fun anyway and my son was thrilled.

I've also included source files for the wood block so if you want to 3d print your own car you can start out with a dimensionally accurate model and modify it from there -- and again, this would violate most rules, but could still be fun =]

Fusion360 and STEP files included.

Print Settings

Printer:

Prusa i3 mk3

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.15mm

Infill:

15%

Filament:
any PLA
black

Notes:

There should be enough surface area on the bed you don't need to do anything special despite the first few layers having gaps; it gives it a nice texture though it may or may not have an actual gap depending on how well your printer bridges.

Category: Other
