Pinewood Derby Weight Drilling Jig
thingiverse
I posted a remix (link below) that I haven't modified yet, but mainly so I could easily download and print from an STL file. The holes are slightly smaller than a 3/8 bit, but it worked quite well otherwise. This drilling jig is designed to help guide drill holes for adding tungsten weights to the bottom of a pinewood derby car. The default settings are set up for 3/8" diameter weights, and distributing the holes on either side of the shorter of the two axel lengths on the block. You can use this tool to drill one or three holes in front of the axle and optionally do the same behind if more weight is needed. On my son's car, we did three in front and one behind. Use the slot to ensure alignment with the axle channel on your block, then clamp it to the body. Add tape to your drill bit once you've determined the depth you need (for the number of weights you are adding, and the depth of this jig). If you want to flip your car backwards or customize it, you can change the axelDistFromRear to the measurement you want.
With this file you will be able to print Pinewood Derby Weight Drilling Jig with your 3D printer. Click on the button and save the file on your computer to work, edit or customize your design. You can also find more 3D designs for printers on Pinewood Derby Weight Drilling Jig.
