Pinewood Derby Body

Pinewood Derby Body

thingiverse

This is the model my son and I came up with for our boy scout pinewood derby. We're excited to see how it will perform on the track, but we've made no special effort to optimize its speed - my son just wanted it to look cool. The body is intended to be mounted on top of a simple 'I' frame car. To avoid printing overhangs, I sliced the model into 5 separate printable pieces. They glue together nicely using acetone, and with some bondo and sanding they look like one complete unit. The bottom piece will need to be attached after the body is placed onto the car's frame. I'll post photos when time allows. I've also included the profile drawings in case you want to cut it out of a block of wood - just remember that you'll need two blocks glued together. Here are some details about our design process: We used Fusion 360 sculpting mode to create the initial design, and then switched to the modeling environment to make any necessary technical adjustments.
