We adults in our Cub Scout pack create cars to prevent kids from building their own, but we have one simple rule: each car must weigh at least 9oz and contain some wood. I used pine wood filament from ProtoPasta for printing. My car didn't meet the weight requirement without added weights, so I designed a compartment inside to hold them and installed a hatch on the bottom. The compartment extends above the rear axle. This version of my car, printed with 100% infill in wood filament, weighs 4 ounces. The compartment is large enough to fit several long round or half-round steel weights found at your local hobby store, ensuring the car exceeds the minimum weight requirement. I recommend adding metal putty or half-round weights over the rear wheels for extra stability. Round weights also fit snugly into the round jet port in the rear of the car. When printing with wood filament, I glued the bottom compartment cover in place to prevent it from shifting.
