Pinewood Derby axle drilling guide
thingiverse
This is a versatile jig for precision-drilling axle holes on Pinewood Derby cars. One side of the jig is carefully positioned 2.5mm above the bottom, while the other side is set at 3.5mm to accommodate three wheels touching if permitted by your local rules. If not allowed, simply use the same side for all four holes. The jig is designed for a standard width of 45mm, which worked flawlessly for me, but you can easily adjust the width slightly if needed to ensure a snug fit. The axle holes are crafted to be slightly tight, allowing for effortless drilling and expansion as needed. To achieve optimal stability during drilling, I recommend using the following print settings: Printer: Custom Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: No Additional Notes: To ensure structural integrity during the drilling process, I employed a 0.3mm layer height, 4 top/bottom layers, and 4-5 perimeter passes. This configuration enables easy hole expansion without compromising the internal structure's stability. A 25% infill density was also used to achieve maximum strength.
