Pinewood Derby Axle Bender
thingiverse
This is a printable variant of the Derby Worx Axle Bender tool for bending pinewood derby axles (nails). It prints in 3 parts and assembles using #4 bolts - one to hold the two main pieces together, and another 2 to hold the clamp piece down for securing the nail. To make the bending easier, I recommend inserting the nail then cutting about 1/3 through using a metal hack saw. You can put another bolt through the main two pieces as a stopper, like the Derby Worx tool, but I didn't find that to be necessary. It seems to bend consistently around 2.5 degrees without the stopper. Print Settings Printer Brand: Printrbot Printer: Simple Black Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: .3 mm Infill: 50%+ Notes: I printed at .3mm layer height and 50% infill, just for strength, and it seemed to be fine. Post-Printing Depending on the bolt size, you'll probably have to drill out the holes. I used #10 bolts to assemble, and a quick drilling afterwards worked just fine.
