The replacement back cover for the Pinephone is designed with a trapdoor feature that allows users to access their privacy switches. This custom-designed back cover was created from scratch, taking into account the unique requirements of FDM printing. Two versions of this back cover are available: one with tabs and another without them. The tabs were initially intended to prevent warping, but due to the nature of FDM printing, they are no longer necessary. To achieve dimensional accuracy, users are advised to use PLA when printing the back cover. However, ABS, ASA, or any material that is prone to shrinking should not be used, as it may not work effectively. The attached buttons have not been tested and are recommended to be printed in TPU or other semi-flexible materials. A redesign of these buttons will follow shortly. The trapdoor can be installed on top of the back cover by using superglue, provided that the assembly is complete first. This feature allows for easy access to the switches while also protecting them from dust.
