I'm not sure if it will be helpful, but personally I need it because I'm teaching my cats to use our toilets and in the learning phase, I don't want to scare them off with a dropped toilet seat!... It's a quick clip that secures the lid and toilet seat together, but I'm certain it could serve other purposes too.
