Pinard Horn (Foetoscope)

Pinard Horn (Foetoscope)

The stethoscope is designed for detecting a fetal heartbeat within the womb. It is inspired by a wooden prototype owned by my wife's aunt, as showcased here: http://things.hands.com//thing/foetoscope. When printing, ensure support material for the elevated ear-end (SFACT/Skeinforge requires Support Material Choice: Everywhere). After printing, locate a pregnant woman who is comfortable with the idea or, if pregnant yourself, find someone interested in listening to your belly. To use it, place the 'horn' part on the expectant mother's abdomen and put your ear to the flat end. Listen for sounds at least 120 beats per minute; lower frequencies indicate maternal blood flow. Please note that this is not a substitute for professional medical advice; do not use it as a diagnostic tool for determining whether to consult a doctor.
