Pin tumbler lock
thingiverse
I present a simple pin tumbler lock model with cut side for viewing demonstration of operation, combining two newest hobbies: 3D modeling and lockpicking. This model is meant only for demonstrating operation and lacks latch at plug end to connect it to anything or provide other functionality. However, you can still pick the lock if you use very light tension on thin chamber sides exposed by open cut area due to layer thicknesses used in printing process. Keep in mind that pin smoothness can make all pins behave like serrated security pins unless they're carefully smoothed out. I printed the plug and housing from PLA material using 0.2mm layer height, 10% infill rate and 2 perimeter walls with automatic support features enabled via slic3r toolset for printing the driver pins and key pins thinner layers of 0.1mm yield better results when using these in pin configurations. Ballpoint pen springs taken as alternative spring sources then cut in half to obtain proper heights suitable for 2 chambers in which springs function efficiently in driving operations. Key pins have varying lengths to accommodate specific lock combinations users create for each unique setup since I'm not providing a pre-arranged key arrangement; simply assemble the pins yourself however you like! UPDATE: Added latest versions (block_cut_v1.1 and cylinder_cut_v1.1) featuring slightly thicker chamber walls within the cut areas to enhance overall print durability, reducing chances of printing issues or weak points caused by chamber wall thinness when using lower layer heights during 3D modeling processes involved in printing locks from home-based fabrication devices. Recommendation for optimal results: Print housing and plug with support layers for smoother finish without risking broken pins during removal process depending on the complexity level you're comfortable handling; it also saves your print quality and reduces potential damage. Also use very fine layer height while creating the driver pins or any other type necessary components such as springs, keys and even some special shapes designed within models that allow customization beyond normal manufacturing options accessible without additional coding expertise involved in unlocking secret codes protecting access restricted doors made fully functional once user has picked them open.
