Pin Pointer (Metal Detector) Bounty Hunter
thingiverse
I got a Bounty Hunter Metal Detector and Pin Pointer combo for Christmas, but my excitement was short-lived when I tried to get the pin pointer going with a 9V battery within 5 minutes - the tab on the back of the pointer snapped, and the battery casing wouldn't fit back in. This was after I noticed that the plastic used in these things is really subpar! The second tab snapped just from me flicking it, which made me realize that the entire thing is probably made of low-quality plastic. So, I decided to come up with a replacement design for this pinpointer that uses threads instead of tabs and still incorporates all of the original electronics of the pointer. This way, I can keep using the same reliable components while making a better product. I took my new design out into my yard and used it successfully to find a bunch of metal trash - it worked great! Here's a short video of it in action: https://youtu.be/_ZRADJ-E6GU For comparison, here are some photos of the original broken pointer to show the size and feature differences.
