Pimironi On/Off Shim Shim

Pimironi On/Off Shim Shim

This is my shim for a shim, a shim shim no less! The Pimironi On/Off shim is a great bit of cheap kit to add to a raspberry pi. It basically adds an Off On switch to your Pi so that you can turn it off without having to issue a shutdown command. Just yanking the power on a Pi will always eventually cause corruption of the SD card, typically the networking files go and you have to manually edit them to get it back. The shim normally sits on top of the header pins, but you can get it a bit lower and make the fitting of hats and expander boards easy. This is my solution for that to hold the pins in place and also to provide an insulator for the card slot just to be safe. I also prefit some vero pins as more often than not you'll want to use the remote button. Check out the Pimironi site for install instructions and software. One of the other things that I do as well is to only solder the pins that are being used by the shim and then to run a scalpel down the pin to clean up the solder as it wicks up the pin.
