Piltdown Man
thingiverse
This is a refined .stl rendition of the original .ply version accessible here: https://sketchfab.com/models/c3b96f7065c442bc9cb9acc7223acda2 The Piltdown Man was supposedly unearthed by Charles Dawson, an amateur archaeologist, in 1912. He claimed it as a crucial link between humans and apes. The fossil, along with much of Dawson's research, was later revealed to be a deliberate fabrication in the 1950s. A jawbone from an orangutan and skull fragments from a 15th-century human were cleverly combined to create this elaborate hoax. As a result of this deception, paleontologists mistakenly believed for decades that the human-shaped braincase was the first characteristic developed by hominids, rather than a face resembling humans.
