Pilaster Consoles
myminifactory
The console, adorned with acanthus leaves and other elaborate Renaissance details, originated from a strategic fort situated on the Adriatic coast. This fortified stronghold was commissioned by Giovanni della Rovere, the powerful Lord of Senigallia and nephew of Pope Sixtus IV. Positioned as a corbel rather than a capital, the console would have been embedded in the wall at the precise point where the vaulted ceiling meets the wall, serving not to provide structural support but to create a visually stunning termination that adds a touch of elegance to the surrounding architecture.
