Pilaster console

myminifactory

This ornate console, adorned with acanthus leaves and Renaissance flair, originated from a fortress perched on the Adriatic coast. Giovanni della Rovere, Lord of Senigallia and Pope Sixtus IV's nephew, had commissioned this fortification. A corbel rather than an imposing capital, it would have been positioned snugly into the wall at the precise juncture where the vaulted ceiling meets its supporting structure, providing a visually striking termination rather than any substantial architectural reinforcement.
