The Monastery of Santa Maria la Real de Gradefes is a cistercian nunnery, Catholic, located in the town of Gradefes, province of Leon, Spain. Founded in 1164 by Teresa Petri after her husband's death, Garcia Perez, lord of the surrounding area, was its first abbess. It consists of a Romanesque church, chapter hall, cloister with beautiful semicircular arches, garden and other monastic dependencies. The aquanile was the container in the shape of a small baptismal font where holy water was offered to the faithful.
